    Shingles virus infects neurons in the motor area of the upper spinal
    cord (in the neck level). This sadistic virus kills those neurons by
    relaxing them to complete inactivity!
    Symptoms are:

    1. Catatonic motor paralysis marked by inabiliy to move or speak (terrifying; resembles sleep
    paralysis); paralysis is neither flaccid nor spastic. The patient's muscle remain in the same
    position they were before the onset of paralysis. All voluntary muscles are paralyzed; therefore,
    the victim cannot move or vocalize. Reflexes involving voluntary muscles are also ceased.
    Infliction of pain does not make subject scream or pull away from source of pain. Breathing and
    other autonomic functions are unaffected.

    The paralysis caused by shingles is paroxymsal.

    I personally had shingles, and experienced nothing like what you describe. The Herpes zoster virus
    lives the central neurons that run along your spine. They retreat there after an attack of chicken
    pox. The blisters travel down the nerve from the central blister. Mine traveled down my arm from a
    blister near the back of my neck in the middle. I experienced a lot of pain and tenderness for about
    a month or so in my left arm but absolutely no paralysis. The lesions went away and I had no
    sequelae. Many elderly people have problems with shingles on their trunk and it becomes extremely
    painful to even have clothing touch their skin. The lesions can last for quite awhile.

    According to this website:

    it can cause facial paralysis if the trigeminal nerve is affected. Nowhere does it say that the
    whole body is paralyzed. Please cite a source for this obviously sensationalized posting.

    I also had shingles, when I was 21! It went from my shoulder blade around to the middle of my chest.
    It was extremely painful. I did not experience any paralysis. I agree with you J. D. Poster, please
    let us know where you got this information from.

    Errr ???

    I had shingles at 30. Started right of spine at waist level, blisters ran around waist and down into
    right groin. NO SIGNS OF PARALYSIS and not heard of anyone else paralysed sofar. Felt like permanent
    blowtorch on you all the time. Lasted 6 months 🙁 but no trace of any scars 🙂
