Shimano R-540 wheels

Should be fine given your size. What bike and group? How much is the package going for? There has been some debate about 540s holding up for bigger folks. Decent wheel for the price. You most likly won't have a choice of wheels if it is coming speced from the factory with the 540s. I actually came close to buying them but caught a cheaper price on near new Ksyriums Elites.

Im a bigger guy, broke 1 spoke in 3000km (bigger i mean 120kg)
I like em, reasonably quick on flats, not too heavy, good alround wheel for low to mid range riding (I use mine for club races)

I bought a set of them recently and I love them. My first impression is that my bike has become smoother.

For your tour, get a set of conventional wheels.

If you break a spoke on a conventional set of wheels, a quick visit to the shop will get you back on the road. Not quite as easy with the R-540.

not the sort of wheel that takes kindly to a spoke gone

all the low spoke count wheels go wacky with one spoke out, but the ones with clusters of spokes like the R-540 are worse than wheels with unclustered spokes. I use Performance Titans for touring. They come stock with bladed spokes, but garden variety J-bend spokes also work.

I've had my R-540s for about 15 months now. No problems so far. Somebody mentioned that their spokes rusted - haven't had that problem myself. I'm only 70kg so can't comment on how they suit heavier riders. As an training/club wheel they seem to be good value (and great looking). Everyone comments about the weight of the rims (its true - they are not very light), but as wheels for training or club rides, this isn't important to me. The weight of a wheel goes down as price goes up eh.
