I was talking to someone managing a bike shop in central London earlier... he claimed rather a lot of things, much of which seemed to be spurious; mostly that he had this and that worth this much and that much (la la la).
Amongst his claims was that he was testing stuff "way beyond XTR", which included the "new" Shimano pneumatic gearing system. This makes no sense to me because unless you compress the whole system, air is too springy to provide accurate shifting. And if you do compress the system it strikes me as prone to leaks.
He also claimed that Specialized's M4/5 framsets were [censored] and that everyone should buy Scandium frames because they last forever. Hmm.
Should he be sentenced to a mental institution or is there any truth to his claims?

I shan't be going there again, mostly because www.chainreactioncycles.com is SO much cheaper than any other UK outlet. It frustrates me a little because I like supporting local shops, but I refuse to pay 25% more for the pleasure!

Also see that the 'new' XTR crank is having bearing problems...anybody else see/hear this?? shimano is not particularly coorperative, but will send 'improved' bearings...
