Are you sure you aren't thinking of PD-M520? THEY are common.

I called shimano again this afternoon, they should be in the shops next week, the first shipment sold out before they arrived. :eek:

I looked at them myself and Fitzroy cycles (Carnegie store ) had them for $100 pair but dont appear on their online site?
I like the idea of having one pair of shoes and cleat style for both mtb and road bikes. Ended up with the spd M520 and appreciate the double sided entry for ease of use and that I could buy two sets for the price of the spd A520 including postage from www.probikekit.com. . At the moment the price is less than $30/pair for a short time. The weight penalty is there from memory 210g Vs 350g if that is a major factor.

I have a set of MTBs PD-M520 brand new, never out of the box, for $75 local dollars if anyone is interested. Some SH-M023 shoes too, $75, as new.

Can't wait for my PD-A520s to arrive, they will support the shoe better than the MTB pedals, should be no more hot spots.

I have been using PD-A250 pedals for about six months but came by them by chance, (ordered for another rider who had broken a leg). I ride a Giant Farrago Hybrid for comuting and recreation and find these pedals well suited for this type of riding. Probably not so good for MTB where you can't afford the time to spin the pedal before clicking in, much better for touring, light and low profile. Last time I looked at the Shimano website they did not appear on the list but their predecessor the PD-A515 was pictured.

Corrected the weight comparision, not much in it and I dont get hot feet from the mtb pedal 😄

I got the SPD 520 as well ... ive noticed after a 2 or so hrs .... my feet began buzzing ... like ... pins and needles .. is this due to the pedals or the shoe itself?

You get 2 hrs! 😠 I'm lucky to get 20 min on the PD-M pedals... 3 more sleeps to my PD-A520s...

The main suspect would be the shoes if you can feel point loadings on the sole of the shoe that cant be good, I have a regular 4 hour sunday ride and I dont even have to think about it.
Shoes are Gaerne rota, mtb version very comfy on road and mtb bikes. They have a solid stiff sole for power transfer without pain, they breath ok as well for moisture wicking on the hot days. The solution is not just the pedal but the combo with the shoe, the days of web buying open up a lot of good deals, some give an extra discount when the pedal/ shoe combo is purchased together.

OK, I got the PD-A520s on the road bike, its on the mag trainer at the moment.

First impression, a little more difficult to cleat in and out, (than PD-M540s) adjusted to min tension, a little better.

Pedaling is firmer, less sole flex in the shoe, however, pins & needles in right foot after 10-15 minutes, and left after 30.

Yes its the shoes, they have reached their use by date... just too tight across the toe box, even with the laces completely loose, SH-M038.... oh well, see what shoe Shimano invents for 2006... maybe some carbon we can walk in. 😎 Or time for some Sidi Mega! :eek:

If you have shoe flex, point load and tight fit even in winter! seems you need to update the shoe for sure. There are some well priced shoes, smaller sizes at http://www.probikekit.com/display.php?cat=Shoes&PHPSESSID=69b2205d0bfbdb24a26a876abcf51596
Shame the new pedals did not solve the problem but you have saved some weight and improved the look with the A520.
