parts or cartridge bearings belong on bicycle components. Well now
I'm wrong. I'm not sure how long this has been out, but the
WH-7801-carbon wheelset has carbon rims.
Can anybody else think of any other parts that Shimano makes with
carts or carbon?
In either Rivendell Reader #34 or 35, Shimano stated that it is the
arguably one of the *largest* user of carbon fiber in the world. Its
expertise - fishing. Check out Shimano fishing for more:

Yes, but I was referring to bicycles. I'm inclined to believe that the
divisions are entirely separate.
Except for maybe the Shimano Tiagra shifters/derailleurs and fishing
reels:

If they weren't so separate, wouldn't we see more CF in their bike parts?

Not necessarily, in that interview, Kozu Shimano stated that Shimano felt it
could make aluminum bicycle parts stronger and *just as* light as other
company's carbon stuff. In some ways this is true. For example, look at the
DA seatpost, its aluminum and weighs something like 185 or 190g. In
contrast, Campy Record's Carbon/ti seatpost weighs either the same or 5g
heavier!
Similarly, DA 10 crank is "as light", if not lighter than Campy Record's
crank/bb combo. Same thing goes for its derailleurs.
Where Shimano "loses" any weight advantage is in its STI levers. When
compared to Campy's ergo levers, STIs are heavier and non-repairable. But,
levers are like seat and something each person should try out to see which
one they like better.
