Anyone know if there's any difference between the new LX M580 cranks and the new HONE cranks beyond just the color? Shimano markets LX as a "on/off road and XC" and HONE other as "all mountain/enduro" (WTF that means!) They weigh in within 1 gram and appear identical except for color.
I'm seeing an occaisional good deal pop up on ebay for both these cranksets, but haven't seen much written about either one. The XT version of the hollowtech II's seem to be well regarded, but pricey as hell. I actually like the all black look of the Hone cranks (even if the name sucks), and may just grab some.

Just [censored] tying to make more $$$ by expanding the line. If you are going LX level, you might as well pick the cheapest one anyway. I think the Hone is hollowtech, but I am not sure HT made it do the LX level yet.
From what I saw they're separated by almost 70g. And almost $100. Other
than that, I don't know of any tests for impact strength or materials or bearing or chainring quality. Based on looks, I'd venture a guess that they're the same mold and the XT got extra machining. But what do I know?

I dunno, what do you know?
I was wondering about the difference between the new Hollowtech II LX and the new HONE. Weight is about the same, price is w/i $5 at most web retailers and the crankarms *appear* to have similar beveling. Only difference I can see is color, but that's why I asked the question -- to see if it's just marketing BS for the same product or there really is something that distinguishes the two components that might impact my decision to buy one over the other.
XT is obviously more expensive, a bit lighter, and are shaped a bit differently, but I've heard good things about the HTII version. I was hoping to hear some opinons on the LX version and/or HONE.
