  1. I am thinking of buying a [font=Arial]SHIMANO 105 FC 5502 crank set for my road bike, but I am not sure if it is compatible with the bottom bracket that is currently on my bike. The crank set I have now is a Shimano FC A550, and it is on an approx. '89 carbon Miyata roadbike.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated-- the chart at shimano.com proved largely useless to me, and information on older Miyata's in general is hard to find. Thanks!

  2. From what I can guess, your current cranks have a square taper (UN52). The FC-5502 cranks use a OctaLink/splined bottom bracket (BB-5500).
IMO you have to replace the bottom bracket or look for new cranks with a square taper.

  3. Get a 105 BB off Nashbar for $20 (BB5500). Chances are you're due for a new one sooner or later.
