Shimano bits and pieces?

You can get an entire 105 hub from Nashbar for $40, and
just pull the axle out and use it.

Isn't that overkill? A new cone should be a few dollars at
most, unless 105 hubs use some weird expensive proprietary
cones. I just picked up a couple of new standard cones for
$1.50 Canadian each.

Any LBS will stock cones.

Thanks, I suppose, I could always buy another bike and
pull out a bearing cone ! All suggestions are helpful!

Better yet, buy a bicycle store. Then you'd have a larger
selection to choose from!

exhausted my local suppliers and have tried with a drill at
million rpm and a diamond tipped needle file to remove the
pitting from cone only ( but feel that only a professionally
produced replacement is good enough) and had hoped that
Shimano would have a distribution network to reach even the
darkest parts of the UK ( Wales even ) to supply a 2 and 1/2
penny machined cone plus £ 10.00 delivery charge. ( or is
that asking too much?)

Yipes, I had no idea there were so many different sizes and
shapes of cones. In any case, the non-Shimano cones I just
picked up for my Shimano front hub seem to work fine. Have
you tried taking your old cones around to some local bike
stores to see if they have anything non-Shimano that will
work? Just about anything has got to be better than trying
to remove holes with a drill 🙂

It's odd that you haven't been able to find a supplier. I
had the same problem and I simply asked my local bike shop
to order a set. Granted, this was in the U.S. (and shipped
from Quality Bicycle Products:

) but I can't understand why a halfway competent shop
wouldn't tell you "it's not an item we stock, but we can
order it for you".

Did you look at the St. John Street Cycles web page? I found

Hi Fred. I sent you an e-mail advising that I could send you 2 brand new
cones from this side of the pond and they would arrive in Wales in about 1
week. Unfortunately there seem to b a problem with your e-mail addy and my
reply bounced back. Anyway. These are never used as I had to buy a pkg of 4
from my LBS as he didn't want to keep the other two. Apparently his
distributor gets them in packages of 4. I didn't order bearings from him as
I didn't want to have to pay for a gross (144) of them. Send an addy and
I'll send the cones at no charge to you. They're just gathering dust here.
