The scheme has been thrown out. I heard it on the Radio
Scotland news this morning. I was interested more as an
angler then I remembered it being discussed in here because
of it's environmental effects.

The Scottish Executive has rejected the planning application
for the scheme outright, having decided the enviromental
impact outweighed any possible benefits. The full
announcement is at:

The application was to dam lochs in one of our few remaining
areas of wild land, all for a minimal power output - (about
4 wind turbines worth). The John Muir Trust produced an
excellent assessment as their objection to the application.

I was one of the 848 who wrote an objection.

I'm all in favour of environmentally sustainable energy,
though I'd rather we concentrated on reducing consumption
(loft insulation and energy efficient light bulbs would be a
start) than on building yet more power stations, be they
wind, water or whatever.

And generating it where it's going to have no additional
impact at all. There used to be a generator in the outflow
from Thirlmere, but I believe it's been removed.

thought this would go ahead but it's fantastic news that it
has been thrown out! The "wild side" of Torridon has to be
seen to be believed.
