Sherpa Van Project

Can't help there, but I have just booked three bikes on trains for a C2C
ride at the end of the month - to get them (and us) from London to the
start, and them (and us) back to London cost only £30 each, which seemed
quite good :-)

An alternative to the Sherpa van service is Stanley Taxis who run a
bike bus service. I know of a local ( to me) cycling club that have
used them to travel to their starting point with no complaints. You can

Actually, Geo, and although I thanked you, now that I look at it your reply
is no more helpful than the other fellow's. I'm not asking who can get me to
the start. I'm asking who'll move my bags between stopping points at a
reasonable price. The Sherpa Van Project say they do, but do they? Has
anyone got any experience of them? It's very nice of you men to answer the
question you think I should have asked, dumb little woman that I no doubt
am, but what I'd really like is someone to answer the question I actually
did ask. Because -- oddly -- that's the one I want an answer to.

No, no, no,
You need to ask a question that we want to answer, so that we can answer it
and not look dumb.
There's no point in asking a question that we can't answer, because we'll
just answer it anyway, then the answer will be wrong and we'll look dumb.
Unless we can craftily transpose the dumbness on to you for asking the wrong
question to begin with, even though you think that it's the question that
should be asked.

You can get special bags called panniers, and as you'll have a bike you
might as well ride home ...

They list two or three people who will move luggage for you along the
route, either as part of an organised trip, or as a bolt on to your own
arrangements.

the same sort of clothes they spent the cycling day in, they're probably
fine.

Use a little imagination. I have lived for 6 months out of 2 rear panniers,
with half of one being devoted to bike spares as I was rather off the beaten
track. On bike and off bike clothes can be fitted in easily with a little
forethought.

OTOH if you simply don't want to have that weight with you every day, then I
can sympathise.

We used them last year. A perfectly excellent service. Just tell them where
you're staying each night and they do the rest, they will arrange pick-up with
the owners of the B&B. It's best if you ask the owners when you book if they
are happy for you to have your bags handled this way.

However, isn't there a minimum of 2 bags for Sherpa Van on the C2C? You should
check with them.

It's about twenty quid for a rack. If your bags aren't panniers, then
you'll need some of those too.

The effort comes at the cost of a few more calories.
