of snow but it's hard to tell because of all the drift. Most drifts are
4' to 6' in height.

Most everything was closed today as it will be tomorrow. We're not gonna
get dug out of this one until at least Tuesday morning, possibly Friday.

Maybe 12 inches in places. The great thing is, the wind cleared the
driveway!!! There was about a foot of snow (depth) for maybe 2 feet
(distance) between the garage door and my car. And some more at the end of
the driveway near the street. But when I looked out my dining room windows
into the driveway, the driveway was bare! What a break!

My neighbor upstairs used my shovel to clear out behind his car (which he
pulled into the driveway) but did not have to do anything other than that,
and the sidewalk and steps, of course. So funny to look out one set of
windows and it looks like there was no snow at all, then go look out the
front windows and see a blizzard!

Our problem here is the temp. It got all the way up to 19 degrees today. I
went outside only to clear off my car and start it, make sure all was well
with the car. It's not expected to get above 25 this week. Brrrr.

Not here - the wind was so strong it blew the entry door to the building
open and deposited a foot of snow in the hallway.

We were without cable/net/phone for about 4 hours today. When I finally
decided to go and find a pay phone (My cell battery was dead too and the
charger is at the office!) I found the following.

The nearest pay phone is < 100ft. from the place and it was under about
8 feet of snow. Next nearest wouldn't take my quarters, nor did the one
half a mile down the road. When I turned around I noticed three Cox
trucks humming down the road at a decent clip. By the time I got back to
the house the cable/net/phone were working again.

Ah, the many failure points of Voice over IP. The biggest withdrawal
happened because of the net being down. The SO uses AutoCAD and was
getting symbols and blocks through their network connector - ooops. And
I was trying to send email. Oh well, got the most important email, all
gov't offices closed tomorrow. Yipppeee, I don't have to go to work.

I'm going to go and play in the snow.

This year we're now at the 48" level for the season and it isn't over
yet. I do recall the winter of 1996 when total snowfall was 120" for the
season. Ick!

and it always seemed to me that you were "about 15 minutes" away from
anything in RI.

We lived just outside of Westerly for 14 years and I recall
the statistic that no place in RI was more than 45 minutes from
the state capitol bldg. in Providence. At the time RI had a part-time
legislature that met around 3PM and consisted mainly of teachers and
lawyers.

Now we're in suburban Denver and it can take 45 minutes to drive
the 20 miles downtown.

Not anymore. Traffic density has gotten to the point where the 15
minutes from Narragansett to Providence is now an hour plus. Unless of
course it is 3:30AM and then you have to worry about the State Troopers.

It's gotten to the point that East Greenwich to Providence takes at
least an hour between the hours of 7:00AM-10:00AM and 3:00PM-7:00PM. So
there's a five hour window when you can still make the trip in twenty
minutes.

Two jobs ago I worked for a company that had stores in RI, CT, MA and
NH. I used to hate hitting the Medford/Sommerville stores because it
meant that if I left after 2PM I'd be stuck on I-93 for at least an
hour. Then I'd be crawling on I-95 from Attelboro to Providence.

What really sucked about the experience was that I was driving a Toyota
pickup with a 5 speed stick. Needless to say the muscles in my left leg
got quite a workout.

Hey, Tony! Whaddaya mean Friday? I drove up to Peabody and back
today, and the roads were as clear as usual in RI and MA. Even the
wimpy...er, considerate company I work for says there is work on
Tuesday.
