Started again a week ago, and this thing has been tearing my stomach up.
I'm hoping this will eventually get better. Anyone have any helpful hints?
My stomach has been killing me...and spending too much time on the throne if
you know what i mean. :-(
Thanks

This does not happen with low carb. I suppose, if you ate a bunch of foods
with sugar alcohols, it might."mrQ" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

MarkA low-carb diet by iteself tends to go the opposite way because of the
relatively low amount of fiber. However, if you have been lured by
the advertisements for various "sugar free" sweets, you may easily
have overdosed on the substitutes. These are mostly sugar alcohols,
with names like sorbitol, mannitol, maltitol and so on. They don't
get digested the way normal sugars do, but when they pass into the
intestines they ferment and produce gas, diarrhea and such. So look
carefully at the list of ingredients on any commercial products you
have been eating. -

complaints of diarrhea by new low carbers, not all eating SAs.What I recall folks recommending to improve it was psyllium husks, as a

||
|| SusanWhy would low-carb cause diarrhea? I can't think of a reason, although
there are many reasons for the opposite. Most people when they begin low carb are not adding new foods to their diet,
they are merely cutting out certain foods. Is there something about the
sugar and starches that they gave up that was preventing diarrhea?I have a feeling that the stomach cramps and diarrhea happen when people new
to low-carb start eating commercial low-carb substitutes without even
realizing the chemicals and [censored] that are in them.--

Website: http://users.thelink.net/marengoWhen glycogen stores are depleted, the water that was holding it is flushed
from the system. Some is passed through the renal system, some is passed
through the gastric system. When the excess fluid has passed, the diarrhea
will resolve without tx. If it is causing a major problem, it can be slowed
and firmed with a bulking agent such as psyllium husks or any low carb fiber
product (for example, Metamucil sugar free or pills)HTH,

dietary changes, their systems don't handle it well at first. In fact,
I recall a discussion in this group years ago where folks agreed that
diarrhea was a more common occurrence at first than the constipation
that low carb opponents predict.Read the archives.

And IMHO is preferable and easier to deal with... ;=)

that some people eat more green vegetables when switching to low carb and
that can have that effect.
