Setting Up Gravel Bikes for Long Road Rides

I see where you're coming from, but I'm not sure we should blindly chase a balance between ruggedness and speed. Gravel bikes are meant for exploration, and focusing too much on performance might lead us back to the paved road. Let's not forget that part of their appeal is the freedom to roam without the constraints of tarmac.

So, what's the deal with all these gravel bikes turning into wannabe roadies? If gravel bikes are all about that wild ride through dirt and gravel, why are we slapping on roadie parts like we're trying to impress some speed freaks? I mean, come on, 38mm tires? That’s just a road bike in disguise, right? If I wanted to feel the wind in my hair and zoom down the pavement, I'd grab a road bike and hit the tarmac. Why are we pretending these gravel bikes can juggle both worlds when they were born to conquer the untamed? Isn’t the whole point to embrace the bumps, the mess, the unpredictability? We keep dressing them up for a race they can’t win. Is it really worth it to chase that speed if it means losing the grit and charm that makes gravel riding so epic? Are we just chasing shadows, or what?
