One of the great things about living in a country that actually has
some history is the road names.

Out riding south of Norwich to day, noticed "[censored] Hole Lane" - ooer
    missus!!

My favourite in a relatively new country, Australia, is [censored] Street in
Broken Hill. Most of the streets have names relating to the mining industry

we had one of those, without the hole, they changed it to Snowdrop lane when
they built a new estate off it, and then tried to stop them naming one of
the new roads Burma Drive because of the wartime acronym. Good thing
Lufthansa weren't in the area ;-)

  3. While not technically about cycling, I lived with my folks in Gabarone,
Botswana until I was ten. There were 2 streets my Dad was keen to point out
    to me and my sister:

    Letswee Avenue
    Poo Road

Great stuff eh? Toilet humour wins every time

Reminds me of Minges near Much Hadham (TL 437 166).

There hasn't been a really fruity road name since they renamed Gropecunt
    Lane.

  6. Not grim, but rather nice, is the "Carless Avenue" in Harborne.

Are there a few examples of this name up & down the country? The only
one I'm aware of was in York (in days gone by it was apparently the
equivalent of a red light district - no surprise there!), renamed many
years ago - probably by prudish Victorians - to the far more innocent
    Grape Lane.

Which one are you thinking of? The one in York was renamed Grape Lane in
    Victorian times.

Amusingly, my mate at EBC found this one the other day when putting in
an online order. You have to wonder why anyone would choose to live
    there!

We have the rather dangerous Dagger Lane in the cobbled old town in Hull.
Also, there is a Cow [censored] Lane somewhere in a leafy southern English
    village.

Very silly. I find I live only 31 miles from Great Cockup. now there's
    an address to conjure with!

In Lincoln city, there's an (uncyclable) route to the High Street from the
waterfront with the pugnacious moniker of The Glory Hole. Best one I've seen
while out riding is the signs saying "Pity Me" in Durham.

Heard on 6 Music this morning that there is a road somewhere in Oz to
be (officially) named "Highway to Hell" after the AC/DC song of the
same name. AD/DC fans are happy but local businesses are less so, I
guess "Nirvana Funeral Parlour, 24 Highway to Hell, Melbourne" might have
    a certain downside!

A road by any other name would still spell a street...

Isn't there a 'Carsick' or 'Carsick Hill' area in Sheffield 10?

I always wanted to plan a ride from Cold Christmas to New Year's Green.
Maybe it should start at High Easter...
