    As already mentioned on cyclingnews.com the Grand Tour-oganizers and UCI
    seem to head for a collision over unresolved issues.

    But in addition to that the ProTour teams -or rather their
    representative Lefevere- announce a boycot of the Giro if the starting
    fees, as foreseen in the ProTour regulations, are not correctly paid.
    The Giro (and Vuelta) organizers state that they only accepted to be
    included in the PT under certain conditions, excluding some agreements.

    Lefevere admits it seems the Italian teams can't possibly take such a
    hard line in this, and are likely to join the race after all. So the
    outcome might be a Giro which is more regional than ever.

    The Giro is starting just over 3 weeks. I had been wondering we hear so
    little about preliminary selections form the PT-teams. Not to mention
    'ambitions'.

    But the Focus would shift in July to Frankreich and in September to
    Spain and in the Fall/Autumn Classics back and forth between the two
    countries with the odd foray into FrankReich for good measure.

    Thinking more on the subject of just how precarious is Verbruggen's
    grasp on power, more race organizers could be attracted to a new Governing
    Body if the Current Triumvirate forbade any licensed rider to give an
    interview to any News Gatherer that didn't have an Affiliate License.

    See how fast Het Volk, Het Nieuwsblad, Marca, L'Equipe etc would jump
    aboard the New Bandwagon. Shoot, even the Berlusconi controlled RAI
    empire would be leading the charge of NewsHounds eager to come on board.

    Of course, the problem with this scenario is that it is an abuse of
    Power which I had hoped to avoid in any UCI replacement organization.

    Maybe we could just impeach Verbruggen instead?

    Davey must be getting a bit slack(ware) if he hasn't upgraded to Emacs
    21.4 yet.

    Chalk up yet another scoop for me :-). Actually, the Otago Daily Times
    had the story a month ago. Ash-vegas is a bit behind the times. I
    nearly blew the engine on my truck there a few years ago.

    Weight: Open, Lwt
    Boat: 1x, 2x, 4x, 2-, 2+, 4-, 4+, 8+ (probably not 2+, not sure about

    So, at least 8*3*2*6 crews or 8*3*2*(1+2+4+2+4+8) individual rowers in
    theory, but in fact a lot less because not all fields have enough
    entries, especially (wait for it) the Lwt cat. And it's entirely
    possible that the Mix events have no age and weight handicapping, not
    sure.

    Because of the still ridiculously high number of events, there are no
    heats and finals, just heats. Every heat winner gets a gold medal... One
    bright point in all this misery: there are no world champ jerseys in
    rowing. Also, no veteran (or masters) rower I ever met has any illusions
    about the value of these medals. They typically keep them in a cigar box
    at the back of the bottom drawer in the spare bedroom, if at all.

    You guys should have boats with rainbow stripes. Illusions are what
    Masters World Championships are all about.
