Selle SMP Saddle

Are you talking about the Selle San Marco Panza saddles? If so, I have one and it is very nice. I actually paid about $20 for it, brand new, on ebay.

No, it may be the same company but the one I am interested in is called a Selle SMP Strike.

I have been looking at ebay and also on-line. We have two LBS and neither carrys this brand.

Have the LBS call Albabici, talk to JonLuca and ask for a demo saddle. With the big $, SMP distributor will send a demo saddle for free for tryouts. Of the people that have tried our demo SMP, all have bought one.

I am currently using the SMP Strike Evolution saddle. I can honestly say it is the best saddle I have ever tried. Tried around 10 different the last 3 years. It looks a bit far out, but the shape design is sound and it feels quite natural when you sit down on it. The rise on the front prevents me from sliding forward too much. Like all saddles with cleaveage it does get a bit interesting in the rain, but general comfort is way more important anyway.

It's like any saddle, it's a lottery whether it fits you or not. Just because it's top of the range in price and good if you have numbness problems, doesn't mean it will necessarily be comfortable.

I bought one and couldn't handle more than about 30km on it. But I had not the slightest bit of numbness, which I do get with saddles without a cut-out.

It's sitting gathering dust at the moment...

AGREE!!

And I love the slight rise on the back (just like my old concor). All in all, BEST saddle I've ever used!

Whats the story with the nose of the saddle? It points straight down and I can't see its purpose. Am I missing the point about these saddles?

It stops your shorts from getting pulled down when you sit down after having been out of the saddle. 🙂

Not only that ... it prevents the nose of the saddle from digging into your groin when you are edged forward.

I've been using thie Selle SMP Pro Evolution for 2 months and i absolutely love it.

I too have been using an SMP Evolution. My opinion is that it is very comfy for long rides, earns the title for me for "Best Saddle Ever".

Though I do find it to be a tad uncomfortable in TTs.

So I stopped using it in TTs, only for rolling around on the road bike.

And all is good with the world. 🙂

Can you get demos in Oz/Melbourne?

I think the huge cut out might suit me. Not sure if wide/flat enough though.

I'm considering going to the max width specialized from a medium, but thier saddles are so hard!

I can definitely give a nod of approval to the Specialised Toupe saddle. They come in two widths - best determined by sitting on the Specialised "ass-o-meter" at your local approved bike shop. That minimalistic piece of carbon and plastic doo-hicky is even more comfortable that my old San Marco Rolls and Regal saddles - and about half the weight.

the way we got into selling them (as I thought they were a bit pricey at first) is testament to the saddles... the manufacturer gave me a Pro and said 'ride it and if you like it, stock them'

so I rode it, liked it, stocked them and myself and the rest of the staff that cycle changed the saddles on all my our own bikes to one or other of the range within a month!

Looks like something I'll have to try. My favorite saddle has been discontinued by Selle Italia and is nearly worn out.

Unfortunately, personal testimonials about saddles is meaningless. I had one of these saddles but it just wasn't for me. I purchased it on e-bay and then sold it on e-bay. I didn't make as much on the sale as what I paid, but the difference was worth the test drive.

I've been using an Arionne which I find good but I fitted a SMP Glider to my wife's Klein and she loves it.
The glider is a bit wider than the evolution so I am going to borrow one to test it out.

I've heard that the Specialized Toupe doesn't last long when used by heavier riders.
