  1. I'm not sure if I'm sabotaging myself or not. Yesterday I had a lower points sort of day because I
wasn't as hungry yesterday. This morning I woke up hungry, had some fruit, skipped the morning
snack because it was too busy at work, had my lunch, saved a portion for later and had an
afternoon snack on top of that (12 points). When I came home I was ravenous. I had a bag of ceasar
salad with a little dressing (1oz according to the scale), 2 crab stix, and a few mini merangues.
    (Maybe 4 points)

When dh came home, we went out to dinner to a Mexican-style place, Chevy's. I had 3 containers of
salsa (3 points) and the chips that go with it-I take huge scoops of salsa so I could finish a
container with 5-6 chips (no idea how many points). Then or food came and I had 1/2 of one of my
Napa quesedilla's (sp?) and a wedge of dh's fiery. I checked the Chevy's site and dwlz.com and
neither his or my dinners were on there so I don't really know what to count dinner as. I can't
imagine that the dinner portion that I ate had substantial points because it was so little and there
was very little cheese, no guac or sour cream on either, but on the other hand we were out to
dinner, it tasted good-had to be loaded with points right?

I was looking forward to seeing downward trend on the scale and I'm not sure that will happen now. I
have been weighing daily to see if I can see some sort of trend, but I think I'm going to have to
make it every other day or more because it's as if I see myself lose weight and then want to
    celebrate with food (self sabotage?).

I'm feeling a bit bad about myself for going out to dinner so early in this new woe because I'm
trying to learn good habits (more sabotage?). I do know that I was completely satisfied after my
quesdilla 1/2 and then I pushed it with the second half of hubby's wedge. I also know that in the
past, I would have gotten the meal that was covered in a cream sauce and I didn't do that. I also
know that normally (or maybe I should say in the past) I can keep eating well past the point where
dh stops. I didn't do that this time because I noticed I was feeling full. I also think that I ate
    less in general this time.

I'm not really comfortable with going out to eat because I don't know all the point values and I'm
changing what I choose, but simply assigning some arbitrary number to something that I don't know
the nutritional information on is difficult for me. I don't want to give up going out to dinner
though because it's a break that I need from cooking and I like to get out every now and again for
    some variety.

    Suggestions?

This post got long on me. Thanks for sticking through it.

  2. You are thinking about what you are doing, that is an NSV of the highest
magnitude. You are listening to your body and eating less, another NSV.
all you need change is making sure you find something similar to be able to
count the points, I think you rare doing grand, Lee

  3. Julie:

Going out to eat isn't sabotage!! It's part of life. WW is all about doing this for the rest of
your life. Don't expect yourself to start any behaviours that you can't maintain for the rest of
    your life.

From my Dining out Companion Quesadillas are 5 pts for 1/2 of a 6"
diameter. It sounds like you had 5 pts plus 1/3 of 5 pts from hubby
(count that as 2). That's 7 pts. Not bad. Count it and move on. If you
need to use some flex pts that's what they are there for. No worries.
Buy a Dining Out Companion. It will help with dining out problems.

Weighing yourself everyday can cause problems for some people. If you feel like you are changing
what you eat depending on what the scale says (for the worse) maybe you should just weigh in
    once a week.

  5. Thanks for the point count.

I did tuck the scale away, but couldn't resist getting on it anyway. I just patted myself on the
back for not getting upset about what I saw and moved on for the day. I still didn't track it in my
sheet though, which is probably a very good idea.

  6. Hey Julie, quit beating yourself up, okay? <grin> Going out is part of life, enjoying it is part of
life. You want to make ww part of life, and ww allows you to go out and enjoy the moment. Get back
on track at the next opportunity. Make ammends for it the next few days by cutting back on other
items. We all do it all the time, it works out in the end. While your choice of what you had out may
have been better (I tend to avoid items with cheese), cutting back on the quantity you ate is
definitely a step in the right direction. Salsa is very low in points, probably no damage there.
Chips aren't great, but also not too bad if you keep the quantity under control. I love the tostado
chips, are my downfall whenever we go out. So I go ahead and eat them, enjoy the splurge, and make
up for it later in the week. No guilt trips, no looking back, only look ahead.

Try and stay off the scale for a few days, any increase you will see will more than likely just be
salt. Think of it this way ... it takes 3500 excess calories to equal 1 pound of fat. Do you
honestly think you ate 3500 calories in that dinner? NO! While it may be possible to do that in a
week, it is pretty difficult to accomplish in one meal (unless you are eating Fred's killer
    chocolate cake).

I will admit that in the beginning, I also had a tough time going out to eat - but I still did it.
It became easier down the road. I started by making different choices ... trying the fish at our fav
mexican place (Cozymel's) and finding it was absolutely wonderful. Ordering sauces on the side,
substituting grilled veggies for rice/beans - or asking for unwanted items to be eliminated from the
plate entirely. If I don't see them I won't eat them. Now my tastes have really changed and I rarely
think about what I am ordering. The waitress knows me so well, will automatically tell me what their
seafood of the day is and knows the rest of the order. LOL

Hang in there. With each trip out it does become a bit easier. If in doubt, check out www.dwlz.com ,
the restaurant section ... tons of restaurant listings with points. Have somewhat of an idea in your
head before you go, and try to stick to it. I think you're doing great.

  7. and remember there is no right answer to this scale thing. for the first
month I weighed every day. I tracked it to get some kind of trend but it
did upset me a bunch. Then I joined WW and struggled to stay away from the
scale. I finally beat the need to weigh and now I always weigh before going
to my meeting to not have a huge shock in public. Now I weigh additionally
when I feel really bloated or skinny to help me track things and it no
longer bothers me, do what makes you most comfortable, Lee

If you feel like you are changing
what you eat depending on what the scale says (for the worse) maybe you should just weigh in
    once a week.

life and finding reasonable foods on those excursions becomes part of the long term solution

While your choice of what you had out
may have been better (I tend to avoid items with cheese), cutting back on the quantity you ate is
definitely a step in the right direction.

I started by making different choices ... trying the fish at our
fav mexican place (Cozymel's) and finding it was absolutely wonderful. Ordering sauces on the side,
substituting grilled veggies for rice/beans - or asking for unwanted items to be eliminated from
the plate entirely. If I don't see them I won't eat them. Now my tastes have really changed and I
rarely think about what I am ordering. The waitress knows me so well, will automatically tell me
what their seafood of the day is and knows the rest of the order. LOL

Hang in there. With each trip out it does become a bit easier. If in doubt, check out www.dwlz.com

  9. Yes Ma'am! (You're going to have to remind me to do that several times. It's a habit that's harder
to break than smoking for me.) Logically, I know that I didn't eat an additional 3.5K calories, but
I think it's that whole perfectionist thing rearing it's ugly head. In addition to the perfectionism
there is a little bit of "control freak" going on.

I have yet to go to Cozymel's although there is one right down the street from me. How does it
    compare to Chevy's?

I have more than enough weight to lose that I'm quite pleased with eating smaller portions and not
going into a "must eat everything" mode when I'm hungry after getting home from work. I've noticed
that after one week of writing it all down (thus automatically eating less since I'm more aware) and
almost one week of being concious of point count/calorie count it seems like I get fuller on less
food and that pleases me to no end.

I'm changing what I choose, but simply assigning some arbitrary number to something that I don't
know the nutritional information on is difficult for me. I don't want to give up going out to
dinner though because it's a break that I need from cooking and I like to get out every now and
    again for some variety.

    Suggestions?

This post got long on me. Thanks for sticking through it.

  13. Thanks Lee.

I did take my measurements and tucked them in my desk drawer for a week where I'm not seeing
scale movement. I really don't want dh to see those numbers (until I've made significant

    Uhm .... NO.

    Quoted message said:

I was looking forward to seeing downward trend on the scale and I'm not sure that will happen now.
I have been weighing daily to see if I can see some sort of trend, but I think I'm going to have
to make it every other day or more because it's as if I see myself lose weight and then want to
    celebrate with food (self sabotage?).

The current weight of one's body is depending on so many factors (water *gulpgulpgulp* intake during
the last couple of days, water *gulpgulpgulp* retention inside the body etc.) that the weight is +/-
1.5 kg for the average human being.

When my wife started WW we weighted her weekly, on Sundays first thing in the morning. When she lost
weight during the week we went for a jog and used those activity points plus the fiesta points she
had saved during the week to celebrate at a fast food joint of our choice, including a dessert.

    Quoted message said:

    So, *I* don't see a problem there 🙂

    Quoted message said:

I'm not really comfortable with going out to eat because I don't know all the point values and I'm
changing what I choose, but simply assigning some arbitrary number to something that I don't know
the nutritional information on is difficult for me.

Don't worry, you'll get a hang for the point values of various foods very soon. When my wife started
she used her guides everytime we went shopping for food and when we went out to dinner. By now she
    knows almost everything by heart.

Same happend to me when I started mid December. By know I have my "standard" meals memorized and log
everything at the end of the day.

    Quoted message said:

I don't want to give up going out to dinner though because it's a break that I need from cooking
and I like to get out every now and again for some variety.

We went out about twice a week, mostly on weekends. Absolutely no problem with that. It keeps you
    happy and that's what counts.

    Quoted message said:

    Suggestions?

Enjoy your life, stick to your plans and don't judge yourself by the scale or by the look in the
mirror. My wife was bragging about not seeing any changes in her body after 6 weeks of WW (she lost
almost 8 kg ( 17,5 lbs) by then. That was when she met a friend for the first time in 8 weeks and
even before saying "Hi" she went "OMG you lost so much!"

    Cheers Marc
    (194/178/165)

Thanks Marc. I see that the H2O game is in effect here.

Don't worry, you'll get a hang for the point values of various foods very soon. When my wife
started she used her guides everytime we went shopping for food and when we went out to dinner. By
now she knows almost everything by heart.

Same happend to me when I started mid December. By know I have my "standard" meals memorized and
log everything at the end of the day.

We went out about twice a week, mostly on weekends. Absolutely no problem with that. It keeps you

    Suggestions?

Enjoy your life, stick to your plans and don't judge yourself by the scale or by the look in the
mirror. My wife was bragging about not seeing any changes in her body after 6 weeks of WW (she
lost almost 8 kg ( 17,5 lbs) by then. That was when she met a friend for the first time in 8 weeks
and even before saying "Hi" she went "OMG you lost so much!"

  20. It must have been bad enough that I didn't save it - could have sworn I did but it's not around.
Maybe it was the cheesecake I saved? Oh well, maybe next time you fix it you'll be brave enough to
    post the recipe again. <G>

Tricky name - Fred's chocolate cake. Actually, I got the recipe from a local newspaper. And yes, a
gazillion calories or points was about right.

Awwwww, sorry. I really wasn't slamming your chocolate cake - but I couldn't come up with anything
else that might be that heavily caloric laden. If I remember correctly, didn't we figure that one
slice had something like a gazillion calories? <G> It definitely did sound wonderful, and I think
I may have the recipe stored in the computer. Maybe not, I've scoured through the mastercook
program and can't find it ... then again, maybe it has a tricky name?

Hey, other than slamming my chocolate cakes (g), you make excellent points. Eating out is part of
life and finding reasonable foods on those excursions becomes part of the long term solution
