Tired of training in the wet, cold and dark days of the UK winter. Well I am, so i'm goining to stop sulking and do something about it. No not change the weather (I wish). Time to pack that bike into its case and jet on down under to Australia. I'm trying to set up a kind of training camp/tour to get some serious base miles in, in December/January. Its going to be for 2-4 weeks depending on how keen everyone is and will be set up and funded through sponsership with all excess going to charity. So not only are you getting a great holiday, nice hot weather to do some long training rides, but you will be contributing towards great causes as well. I know its very early to be thinking about this and I too am still deep in racing. Which is great if it wasn't p...ing it down with rain all of the time. I want to get a group of at least 5 people together and already have one member of the forum interested. Hell if anything you get to see the other side of the world for next to nothing. I am thinking about riding on the East Coast with a good few days spent in the Alps. The accomodation will depend on how much money we can raise and i think a faire split of 50/50 to carity would only be faire for those who are digging deep to pay for this excellent oppertunity. This isnt closed to just men. Women are very welcome to. If there are enough people interested then perhaps we could have a few different paced runs all meeting at the same location at the end of the day. If anyone interested has a non cycling partner who would also be interested in a cheap holiday and some nice hot weather at that time of year then we could do with one - two people dependent on the numbers to drive a car (yes hiring one ves there). This would remove the need for everyone to carry paniers/trailers so we could all ride our super sexy race bikes and have spares carted around for us.
Doesn't this all sound very jolly......... 😄 To make this possible i need people who are keen, can get the time off work or away from education, however this would likely be in the holidays for those students out there. So come on guys support his great oppertunity and make it happen.
Sounds interesting, I would be up for it but would obviously need more details before firmly committing myself. How exactly would you get the money through sponsorship?
Relatives, Companies etc. If we set it up as a charity event and set a larger mileage goal which most mortals would curl up at the idea of such huge distances. Where as we get the benefits of excelent base training and social. Weve got a good few months to plan it so there shouldnt be too much of a problem getting a load of money together. So the money we get from the sponsership will be split 50/50. Half towards the ride and half to charity. Seems fair.... 😕 ?? My dad has done the lands end to john ogroats as a charity ride and they got loads of support, and a memebr of my bike club did Staffordshire to London with similar success. I'm open to ideas myself so let me know what you think. have a chat with your cycling budies If we get plenty of interest soon perhaps we can get things started in the next Month or so. Anyone out there ridden in Australia before? Where did you stay and ride?
I'm 18 and live near london. I'm reasonably fit, probably not up to racing standard yet - didn't have a bike for winter/spring so i've only been riding for a few months this year. Did 110 miles on sunday and as i'm on holiday now I've got plenty of time to get fit :p. What about you?
18. Study Civil and structural engineering at manchester university. Race every weekend and ride for the west mids U23 racing team. Working for a consultancy at the moment in chesterfield. I'm fit but want to get megga fit for next year hence the serious miles wanted at the ideal time of year.
Get the word around about this one guys. Lets get it off the ground. If it goes well perhaps it could become a yearly endevour. Let your friends know about it if your not interested or if you are, try and get a group together or you local club.....

Hey, we desperately need rain down here in our part of the Antipodes! 🙂

I would consult with Stuart Dangerfield (UK TT Champion and record holder replacing David Millar in 2004 Athens Olympic ITT) who competes in Sydney and trains here during your winter.
You may also check with Albion Cycles who run an altitude training camp in January -
Right weve got four people interested in this camp. So come on and club together, we could do with 10 to make this a great laugh and more interesting training.
