If it were my $ I'ld drop the extra coin and get the
Elite, the black one. Much better component specs at a
    very reasonable cost.

So the Elite is actually cheaper, and doesn't come with the
triad shock, which I'd like. I am all over the place when it
comes to terrain, so I wanted that flexibility.

I think that - given that you mentioned the black ano finish
(which is gorgeous) - maybe you're talking about the Pro.
That IS a lot of extra coin
. . . to the tune of $440. . . it does have all XT and XTR,
but holy [censored]. It's going to be hard to justify that on my
    stipend . . .

Yay. My first love/hate relationship with a bike
    company. Unfortunately,

Is that anything like "friends with benefits"?
    --

Yes, quite similar, but better. I can enjoy the benefits
indefinitely without someone getting too attached . . . wait
a minute . . oops. I'm that guy. Well, what can I do but
    hang on foolishly?

Sorry, I guess you are correct, it is probably the Pro.
Those new XT brakes seem very nice, I have the new XT crank
which I really like, and a Fox RL and FOX Float RLC, which I
    also like. Different frame though.

I recently bought a Ventana El Saltamontes, with new front
fork and rear shock. I had lots of stuff to swap over from
my last ride so it ended up costing less than the Pro. I
love this bike, and I feel it handles much better than the
Ellsworth Truth it replaced. But I really liked the way
    the Pro felt.
