Yes - although I would call them medium releases. Instead of the usual cam and lever, they work by
inserting a key and turning. Some take ordinary allen keys, some special five-sided keys, and some
more expensive ones use a proper unique-ish key.

There are usually some new unused ones for auction/sale on www.ebay.co.uk

Many thanks for the replies, spookily the Trans X type ARE on Ebay. Does anyone know whether they
will fit a road bike? (I think mountain bikes are 135mm OLN, road bikes 130mm). Cheers, and

They will yes. Enough of the skewer is threaded to cope with 130 as well as 135 rear hubs. I'm using
them on my road bike now. A bit sticks out the end of the nut - which is actually no problem. Don't
be tempted to do what I did and saw a bit off* unless exceptionally careful and skilfull. I bent the
whole thing in the process :-( But fortunately it still seems to work well enough.

* because I thought it looked unsightly and might be sharp if brushed against legs, etc. Silly.

Cambridgeshire Police recommend using cable ties to secure quick release levers. Obviously it's not
perfect, but it might prevent opportunists.

Thanks for that. I'll get a new one as they seem quite cheap. By the way, does anyone know of an
online dealer with them (The Trans X ones that is) as I've tried the usual places (Settle, Parkers,
Wiggle, Sdeal etc) without sucess. Thanks again.

You're welcome. I had a good look around but couldn't find anyone else selling Tranz X skewers.

If you're after the 5 or 6 sided Allen key ones they are also available under the KF brand from
importers Fishers.

I know CycleSurgery has them (cyclesurgery.comcyclesurgery.comOpen ↗ ) as I used to work there, but most shops
have an account with Fishers and should be able to get you them. 10 squids for the standard 6 sided
5mm Allen key ones, 20 for the 5 sided Allen key ones. I'd also look at the ones from Pitlock, which
are more expensive but nicer and very tricky to get off without the tool.

Looks like it's much cheaper to get those via eBay then. That's where I got mine from and
"davidsbikebits" is reliable, IME. He'll no doubt have some more if the current item has gone by
time you read this.
