Pretty neat map and elevation chart. Do you have some kind of software
that produces that? -

Pretty neat map and elevation chart. Do you have some kind of software
that produces that?I used DeLorme Topo USA 2.0 (very old version) to make the pictures and
Photoshop to edit them. You have to draw the route by hand in this version.
Newer software does automatic routing on roads if you give it waypoints. -
I can vouch for the hills on this route, although I tend to do a "flat
water" version of this more often. (E.g. Alki, Burke-Gilman, Lake Washington
Blvd.) I actually live just a few blocks off of the Greenwood portion of
this route, and was hoping to do a variation of it today. One suggestion I'd make as an alternate or addition to the route is to add
either Carkeek and/or Golden Gardens parks. Both have some decent hills on
the way back east, the views from the water are incredible (on a clear day
at least), and they complement the Discovery Park portion of the route.
Also, for more nice flat water views, adding a ride along Alki beach might
be nice, if you have the time or want to stop for food or coffee.Either way, it's a nice route, I agree, and doesn't require that you haul
yourself over to the eastside, which saves time and dealing with bridge
traffic. Also, as a note to non-locals from someone who's still fairly new to the
region, the map makes Seattle look flat, but trust me, it ain't (which I
found out the hard way!).--

Okay, ..... what the heck.
When I visited Seattle (actually Bellingham) this March, I was lucky
enough to pop off this photo of Seattle. I always figured someone *from*
Seattle would be able to appreciate it more than me.http://cycletourist.com/photo.php?photo=calendar/photos/20050303p.jpg

Ave NW, and 20 blocks north (up hill) to Sunset Hill Park. It overlooks
Shilshoal Marina, Puget Sound, and the Olympic Mountains.I used to live at the north end of Shilshoal Marina but I avoided the hill climb
in Golden Gardens park because there is really no shoulder and I think the lane
is too narrow for safety while climbing. Going down is a blast though. An
alternate to go south past Ray's Boathouse and turn on 38th Ave NW. There are
lots of safer ways to get up the hill from there. -

Wow traffic is moving in the I5, amazing! I have come through Seattle
heading home (Vancouver) at 3:00 AM and got caught in a traffic jam,
incredible, in fact I have never sailed through no matter what the
time. -

I did the ride up 34th last Sunday after doing my regular Alki ride, and
after huffing and puffing all the way up (still getting my legs and lungs
back after a long winter layoff), was treated to an incredible view, as you
described, shortly before sunset. (This is obviously a suitably-named park.)
I think I'll be adding this slight detour to my Alki ride from now on (I
used to cross over the locks on my way south, but went over the Ballard
bridge--yech--on my way back). I also agree that the ride up GG is hairy,
for reasons described. But it's a pretty good hill workout, as is Carkeek
(there are sections I still have to walk up there).--
