www.schnauzers.wsDo you consider platform damping an advantage to the Fox Brain?...or a step
inbetween?Goodoz
Well, having had neither of them before I can't really tell you. I'm
not even sure that it's just a gimmick. I did here the brain is at
opten times a little too stiff and that it takes a pretty big hit to
make it active. I'm not sure I'd have the weight or the big hit to make
it seem anything other than rigid.
I guess the jury is still out but it seems that there are more SPV type
shocks than brain type.

My LTB tells me that Specialized will standardize on the Brain next year
(06 -- we'll see). I tested one recently and didn't care for it. While it
did work, it didn't seem to work fast...as you said, it required a good hit
to break it free from lockout. I wound up selecting a Stumpy with the Fox
float and I almost always ride in propedal. Even though you can change on
the fly, it seems cumbersome on fast changing terrain. Anxious to try a
platform damping shock though.

Same xp with the Brain. On my latest bike, I've got an RP3. The +
propedal mode really helps cut down on bob for standing climbs, and
changing modes is as easy as reaching down for a water bottle.

The best place to save weight is the engine.

That's great that you lost all the weight you can, but I thought you
were about 5'7". It seems strange that you can't go down some more.

5'5". My upper body is pretty wide so If I lost any more I'd look like
a triangle. Doc says I'm at a very healthy combination for my build.
That's fine with me, because I like food. So I eat what I like and bike
a lot to keep it in check. It's all a good combo to me. The only thing
I gave up was alchohol. OK, most people wouldn't want to drop that, but
I feel better without it.

Yep...propedal kicks butt on XC...That's for certain.
