I thought we'd been through this before. The stories about rampant
wildlife, awful weather, crappy food and pish beer are created by the
locals to keep the place from turning into Lake District North.

blasted midges last night, persumably after taking part in this
thread! I had hundreds of bites all over my foot!

I live *uphill*, the quaint Lincoln term for being up on the same level as
the Cathederal. I'm looking forward to having a beach on my backdoor :-)

Well, if you go between mid October and mid May then you'll probably
be ok in walking areas. After that they come out, and many people feel
they make life utterly miserable. Not everyone agrees, of course.

My experience recently - on Islay, Western Isles - late August - mad midge
problem, late afternoon and early evening on days when the wind was low and
no rain. Real pain.

Soon as wind came up, or if it was raining - all gone. - but then
admittedly, that wasnt the best walking weather.

They do tend to attract to me pretty badly - got well bitten. Cover up, and
apply repellent to neck, face and ears. I've even seen people walking with
a net over their heads.
