  1. I just received an email from Gerard Biseglia advising that USAC has started
the investigation process. Whether it leads to anything more only time will
tell. I think the important thing is that the message being sent out is
that when people come forward with allegations they will be taken seriously.

I'm really going to hope that Neben was an aberration. I'd like to
believe it because my dealings with the new people there have been from
good to excellent. I'm impressed with a lot of the new materials and
programs they are putting together for officials. I think that we'll
see a lot more even level of officiating, and it will be at a higher
level. The Motor stuff is great and was put together by some of the
best in the business, and they are all still doing it and in touch. I
think that is what they are striving for now overall is to have the
best people who are currently active putting together, and doing
training for the rest of us. As far as getting questions we have had
answered quickly, professionally, and more than courteously this seems
to have become the standard and if the person can't answer the question
they say so and make a good referral to the right person.
Let's hope that they decide to take this seriously, and are willing to
go wherever the information leads, without giving any more discount
passes, to start beginning to clean up some of this.
There shouldn't be anyone free from investigation including coaches,
staffers, elected officals, racers in the programs, no one.
I sincerely hope that this opens a dialogue that includes everyone
without bias or fear of retaliation for speaking out. It's time that we
have something other than unsubstantiated accusations, and unverified
    denials.
I'm still in favor of granting an amnesty to riders who come forward,
but I'm not sure whether that could be worked out with the world bodies
and I really don't think that the UCI wants to take the lid totally off
all the dirt out there. I hope that USAC does have the courage to do it
here, both to start leveling the playing field, and to start clearing
clean racers from the perception that they're all dopers.

Would you mind posting the follow-up from Gerard?

it has always been my feeling that the non-athlete personnel are made
the scapegoats. most of the time the athlete knows exactly what is
going on but because they are scarce resource - 'talent' they are
treated with kid gloves and often play the 'babe in the woods' card.
athletes (i'm talking about adults here) should be held accountable.

I'd rather not without his permission. It is a brief, two sentence reply
stating what I've said. An investigation has been started.

Agreed, but I was thinking of certain people that I have no proof
against, but anecdotal evidence and lawsuits by former riders are still
out there. People shouldn't be exempt because they work for and are
    part of the governing body.
When the same coaches who are selecting the team make one of the
criteria accepting being doped, they need to be held responsible. Not
that I think this would ever happen, especially not from people who are
    still involved.
