Do you happen to have a link to a Decathlon road bike for an
apprentice-sized rider? Could you share, please?

An average height 9 year-old. Thanks for the link, I think I've found
an excuse to go shopping when we go on hols.

There's also a "7.0 kid" road bike that I've found only in their
catalogue. Can't get a direct link, but go to decathlon.fr's main
Velo page, and click on "Consulter le catalogue cycle", go to page
    32.

Now, I wonder if a UK branch could get one of these. I'll do some
    digging next week.

There is one in Stockport, IIRC. Very cute...

Michael has ridden off on his own to play with friends at the park,
    three nasty junctions away.

Scary is when you get a phone call saying your six year old has snuck
out of the house and cycled to his schoolfriend's house in his pyjamas.
The junctions were fairly quiet, especially at that time of night, but
that bike didn't have any lights on.
(It was at least only a "what if" scaryness, since by the time we found
out, we knew he'd arrived safely.)

Can't find anything except overweight mountainbikes hereabouts.

Super. Many thanks. And what a splendid price!

Shall try and find it in UK.
