I used to crave a new bike every year or so until i got my
chameleon in 2000. It has been perfect for me because it
really is pretty good at adapting to my changing moods. The
additude of the bike changes a lot with part swaps, it never
fully becomes a xc racer or trials bike, but it does a
really good job of faking it.

I could get into how much I love my chameleon, but the
bottom lines is that if you want a bike that is capable of
coping in any role then it's a great bike. I would never
suggest it for a dedicated anything bike, but it makes a
great companion for those of us with short attention spans
and don't want a bunch of bikes.

Mine has ben a dual slalom racer, xc racer, general all day
rider, agressive trail/freeride machine, and now is setup as
a single speed for urban trials.

Excellent, I change and swap-out parts all the time. I
sometimes have a all-day rig with 24 gears, and then I
had a single-speed for jumping and urban. Sounds like my
kind of bike.

sometimes have a all-day rig with 24 gears, and then I had
a single-speed for jumping and urban. Sounds like my kind

A friend of ours has broken 2 of them, but then again, he
weighs about 180 or so and is a dirt jumper who goes rather
BIG on jumps.

Goes back to the not-the-best-at-anything factor, it's not a
dedicated dirt jumper. Compare it to something that is and
you'll quickly see a difference both in design and weight.
