Yes Gavin won but he came out of retirement a couple of years ago.
Richard Meeker won the 35+ 1/2/3 race.

I wonder whatever happened to McCook. I remember his absolutely blazing
sprint on that last Oakland race around Lake Merritt in, what, '89? As I
recall he sprinted from the pack to the two leaders who were about 5 seconds
in the lead. I can't remember if he won or not but I do remember standing
there aghast that anyone would accelerate like that.

Since then he doesn't seem to have done much of anything.

I raced with Gavin as a junior (as did Casey I'm sure) and am aware of
his accomplishments in the 1980s. I talked to him before Sea Otter and
the scary thing is that he says he's not even fit yet! The fact that
he has now come back after such a long layoff reaffirms my belief that
bike racing is an affliction (infection?) that never really goes away,
even after being dormant for a long time ...kind of like herpes.

Anyway, seeing him got me thinking about who are the most notable
riders--men or women, road, track, cx, or MTB--to come out of Northern
California in modern (?) times. IMO LeMond tops any list. Who else?
Bob Roll, George Mount, Jacque Boyer (who also raced Sea Otter masters
btw)? Should Chilcott and McKinley be on the list? Opinions?

Mchook was riding for Prime A. two years ago and fell on a training
ride busting up his knee. This happened like two weeks before US pro
crit. Mchook to RVD. "my knee hurts really bad, I don't know what I
should do, I can barely walk." My response "Damn Dave go to a Doctor
your [censored] is F'd up". Mchook "I'don't have insurance" My response
"pro bike racer". That lasted the rest of the year and through last
season. He is now riding for what might be the worse pro team ever the
Mcsquirel team.

had a new girlfriend who raced.

Craig was riding in the follow vehicle with McGuire Pro rider Dave
McCook who was providing support for the McGuire Women's race.

Cindy Olavarri

Inga Thompson - qualified for the 84 Olympic team in her first year of
racing.

Karen Kurreck - Winner of the first World TT championship for women

for Track

Jeff Solt - Beat Marty N. for the Track Sprint championship and made
the world track team a few years.
