I saw a sound bite about it half an hour ago. Maybe that emanate
domain issue was the coup de gras for her. If the Supreme Court won't
enforce the constitution, there is no reason for her to participate in
the sham we call checks and balances. I shudder to think about who
will replace her, though. Probably just another Bush minion who will
continue to ignore the constitution and go along with stripping more
and basic rights from the people to benefit big business. Of course,
they'll sugar coat it just enough to keep Red State voters from
disagreeing with what they do.... that and use lots of scare tactics.

First it was "Homeland Security", now this. IMO: We're only seeing
the tip of that iceberg. There will be more and more blatant grabs at
our basic rights and liberties over the next few years.

Dissenting were justices Sandra Day O'Connor, Antonin Scalia and
Clarence Thomas, as well as Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist.

In a strongly worded dissenting opinion, O'Connor wrote that the
majority's decision overturns a long-held principle that eminent
domain cannot be used simply to transfer property from one private
owner to another.

"Today the Court abandons this long-held, basic limitation on
government power," she wrote. "Under the banner of economic
development, all private property is now vulnerable to being taken and
transferred to another private owner, so long as it might be upgraded
-- i.e., given to an owner who will use it in a way that the
legislature deems more beneficial to the public -- in the process."

The effect of the decision, O'Connor said, "is to wash out any
distinction between private and public use of property -- and thereby
effectively to delete the words "for public use" from the Takings
Clause of the Fifth Amendment."...

Which means Justices Stevens, Breyer, Souter, Ginsburg and Kennedy
voted for the Kelo decision (I don't think anyone abstained).

Can tell you who didn't vote for it, Chief Justice William H.
Rehnquist, as well as Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas and
Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. All on the so called conservative side.

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

1/2 # caramels (32)
5 tablespoons evaporated milk or light cream
1 cup flour
1 cup quick-cooking oats
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup margarine -- melted
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Melt caramels in milk in top of double boiler; cool. Heat oven to 350?.
Combine rest of ingredients except chips and nuts. Press half of
mixture into bottom of 11x7" or 9" square pan. Bake for 10 minutes.
Remove from oven; sprinkle with chips and nuts; spread caramel on top;
sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture. Bake for 15-20 minutes longer or
until brown. Chill 1-2 hours, Cut into bars.

Really tasty; really rich!!

1 cup margarine, room temperature
2 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
2 eggs
3 cups rolled oats
2-1/2 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup chopped walnuts
14-oz. can sweetened condensed milk
12-oz. package semisweet chocolate chips
1-1/2 cups chopped walnuts
2 Tbsp. margarine
2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt

Generously grease 10x15x2-inch baking pan. Cream 1 cup margarine with
sugar in large bowl. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each
addition. Mix in oats, flour, vanilla, baking soda, and salt. Stir in
1 cup walnuts. Set aside.

Combine milk and chocolate in top of double boiler set over hot water
and stir until chocolate melts. Add remaining ingredients and blend
well.

Preheat oven to 350?F. Spoon 2/3 of oat mixture into prepared pan,
compacting with fork. Spread chocolate mixture over top. Crumble
remaining oat mixture over chocolate and spread with fork. Bake until
golden, 25-30 minutes. Cool. Cut into 1-1/2 inch bars.
