  1. Well, it seems to be that time of year again...

I was out this evening for a longish ride [1] and I was glad I had my
safety glasses on as the amount of bugs was amazing.

Should I wear some sort of face mask though? I mean how much nutrition
is there in several thousand flying insects and do I need to take extra
    food with me?

    And what about protective headgear?

    Factor 15 or a bandana?

[1] It was supposed to be a longer ride until I broke a spoke 🙁
    Only 40 kms.

But Safety glasses are dangerous.. If there are enough bugs splatted on
them they will obscure your vision and you will CRASH AND DIE[2].

Carry extra food with all the calories available in the form of
    nutritious bugs?

I'd say that you can travel light by taking no food with you and just
keep your mouth open as you cycle.

    Just watch out for wasps!

    😉

And wear a patch over one eye like the nuclear bomber pilots did. And
learn to cycle one-eyed. Only half-joking.

    Nah, helmets won't save 'em.

I almost posted the same comment this evening, having ridden through
great clouds of them in the early evening.

At least the ones that come in great clouds this far south don't bite.

95% of us here carry water. I thought of taking orange squash but found
the hard way that it's not as 'clean' for washing the face (and eyes).

And in a few million years a new species will evolve - the basking
    cyclist.
