I have a Schwinn Corvette from 1961. The 3-speed hub turns out to be a
Sachs, from Austria. Anyone know in what way (for dissection/parts
replacement) they would differ from a Sturmey-Archer AW?

Only a few minor differences. The clutch cover is nylon and
the planet pinion pins are chrome plated. The German made Torpedo three speed is very different from
the Austrian Steyr unit. I'm pretty sure that gearbox isn't
original to that bike. Other Corvettes use the Sturmey
Archer AW hub.--

Parts? Meanwhile, it doesn't really say "Sachs" anywhere easily seen.
However, it does say "Schwinn Approved" on one side and "Austria" about
180 degrees opposite. The trigger is S-A. -

Yeah, I didn't know where you were going with that "Sachs".
It was made by Steyr. Parts interchange to SA AW both
inside and out. Steyr hubs I've seen don't have an outside
oiler so you'll have to drip oil in through the axle. Since
the indicator is usually filthy, I remove it, oil the hub,
clean the indicator and reinstall it.
Sprockets interchange to AW and other standard 3-splined
ones, BTW so you can raise or lower the entire gear range
easily.--
