  1. What do you all think of his paint job? Phil and Paul were talking about the cheetah motif. It
looked very cool, if you like that sort of thing. Has anyone seen a close-up picture yet? All I can
    find are long-distance shots.

  3. In the season preview issue of CycleSport or ProCycling, there was a spread of several teams pro
bikes, of which, Sacchi's was one. A real nice closeup. Perhaps its on one of their sites? Maybe you
can get a copy of the mag. I can't remember which month, but I have it at home.

I think he also has a helmet painted with the same theme. I did not see the stage yesterday so I
don't know if he has it with him.

I think some Americans started the craze. I may be mistaken, but I think there were some mountain
bike riders that were inspired by motorcycle helmets. John Tomac and some other mountain biking
stars did this many years ago. Nowadays there are plenty of people in the US and Europe that do it.
I would budget a few hundred dollars for the artwork on top of the cost of the helmet. That is for
external paint jobs. Also remember that this adds and ounce or so to the helmet so for get it if you
are already bothered by the helmet's weight on your head. I hate to admit it but I did have a helmet
matched to my custom paint job way back when.

If you are really a big star, you get your helmet sponsor to do it for you under the surface
material before it is fused to the foam. Again, I may not be remembering this correctly, but I think
back in the days before they started fusing the better helmets, I recall that you could get a clear
plastic cover that could be painted and then you attach it to the foam yourself. It is not like you
could buy a do-it-yourself kit at the bike shops, but I think you could contact the marketing
departments for the helmet makers and they can hook you up with a clear cover. I really doubt they
do this these days. All of the better models use a technology that prevents end users from attaching
their own covers. I am sure anyone in the helmet biz can give you better (current) info.
