Biltema's products have, in the past, been more similar to the
American bicycle market than the Swedish one, compared to Clas
Ohlson. They were more geared towards sporting (that is, less
practical) bicycles with no dynamo-run lights, fenders, racks, or
internal gearing. The kind of stuff you buy to let sit in your
garage for months, instead of riding on errands.
Except for the lack of sunlight, there's no big problem riding a racing bike
to do errands. From slippers to shoes is the same time, be they cleated or
running shoes, and adding a cuff band is no time at all. We have a drudge
bike, with lights, for when it's really dark, but otherwise, I get around
just fine. Same for commuting. I'm comfortable on the bike, which is what
matters to me.
