I am now discovering the joys of typing one-handed, having just broken my left arm while attempting to do repairs after the hurricane... (I broke the radius bone, near the wrist)
What should I ask the ortho doc for, when I see him in a day or two, so that I can run with my fore-arm in a cast?
Are there lightweight, waterproof casts?
How long am I stopped from running, before my arm can take the pounding?

Any other advice?
Thanks,

When I ran cross country in middle school and broke my wrist (I also wrestled and broke my wrist wrestling), my doctor gave me a vinyl brace sort of thing - like the knee braces you see a lot of the time.

Thank you.
I saw the doc yesterday. He is a runner, and so is his partner. He told me my arm is very badly broken, but he was able to position the pieces in a cast. (I never felt so much pain -- and that was with a nerve block and serious pain meds.)
He also told me, very specifically, not to run for at least 6 weeks... I can use an elliptical, but nothing that could result in jarring or bumping the arm. If any piece slips out of place, plan B is an operation to install a permanent plate & screws, and probably some permanent loss of function.

I think I will take his advice.
I would, for at least 4 weeks anyway. Your Dr knows more about it than us.
