  1. This morning at 6:45AM I went outside for a 5 mile run. The temperature is
34 with a windchill making it feel like 26. It is going to get much colder
as the winter comes on, but I used the lightweight Sugoi mittens Donovan
directed me to and they kept my hands comfortable without lining them with
another glove. It was so nice to come in from the run and not have numb
hands. Also, I used them yesterday while attending our daughters' (freshman
and junior) Regional cross country meet. It was very windy and cold and I
was able to manipulate the camera well enough wearing the mittens to snap
pictures. Again, no numbness. I also ordered a pair of lycra leg warmers
that I anticipate will help me with my cold walks across campus in the near
future. So, I wanted to say THANKS to Donovan.

  2. Leafing through rec.running, I read MSEagan's message of 17 Oct 2004:

I'll second that. Even though my winters in Atlanta only get as cold as you
have it now, Donovan and Dot have been a great resource for clothing and
gear. Just do a google groups search on rec.running and you'll see what I
    mean.

Also, have you seen Donovan's "Reviews of Winter Running Clothes"?

I read the other day that there is a space-travel tunnel connecting two very
    interesting points in distant space.

    A Portal, these are called?

Is there a Turn Key I should have?
A toll fare of which I am unfamiliar?
    Guidance deeply appreciated,
    And will be rewarded.

Make that a third here. I was able to pick up some great stuff last year
and I knew what to look for at the end of season sales thanks to D&D.

  5. Thanks for his review site. Based on his recommendations, I just ordered
myself the Infusion hat because I am so sick of messing with our old knit
hats that are loose, don't cover ears, and are generally not too
    comfortable.

I never heard of STD's being called "great stuff", but to each their own.

These sound good. My hands become so excruciatingly painful even in 40
degree temps that I have to stop. (with one layer of lightweight gloves!)

I just spent about 15 minutes searching the web for these mittens, and came
    up dry.

Anyone know where I can get the Sugoi mitts (by phone/net or locally in LA)?

    Regards,

    Dan

  8. Check out the movie "Being John Malkovitch" for more info...it's a hoot.

    Ah thanks for the suggestion;
    howeve, I have no TV.
Perhaps you can explain the relevant points to me? I would be more
    appreciative.

Glad you got this sorted out. Don't know where you live, but if it's 34
already, I can see that you really needed these. Even where I am in the
relatively mild NY (heh!), dressing properly is not just a comfort issue,
it's a serious health issue (and arguably a safety issue!) But take care of
this stuff and winter running is a lot of fun.

    Cheers,
