Today is the eighth anniversary of my return to running. A weekend trip with my family convinced me
that I needed to do something. At 35 I was so out of shape that I thought I might have a heart
attack attempting to do some simple hiking/climbing with my kids. When we came home I started. It
took me three months before I could continuously jog the two and a half mile loop I'd mapped near my
home. Now I'm running 40-50 miles a week. I'm training for my sixth marathon, and I've recently
discovered the joy of speed. Running has changed my life. I'm calmer. I'm more self-confident. I'm
in better physical shape than I was in high school. I've met some amazing running people. I'm
sharing the benefits of running by coaching an elementary school girls' running club. I can keep up
with my kids. I started running eight years ago because of what I thought that it would do for my
body. I'm still at it for many other reasons. Today I'm celebrating. Michelle

:-) Isn't it odd the things we remember vividly? When we met a Significant
Other, when you found out you were "with child," and when we started running (for the first or
latest time).Quoted message said:

One of the nice things that I like about your posts to r.r is the history behind them. You've really
developed your running in a way that I would like to imitate - over time and with continuous (at
least it seems like it) enjoyment. And, now speed <G>.Quoted message said:

Step out of cyberspace into the real world for a change.
Go for a run. It'l help rebuild those muscles that atrophied from sitting at a computer too long.

a lot of other runners in the real world. I try not to bore my family and friends with running
talk about which they have no interest. There are times when I feel really good about what I
think I've accomplished, and I want to tell someone who understands. That is one of the reasons
that I post on rec.running. It is not the only reason. Michelle
