  1. A couple of weeks ago I got some Rudy Project Perception cycling glasses.
I was quite pleased as the optical insert was included in the £82 rather
than being extra as some are. The box was sitting on the dining table at
home. Then, last week, we had guests and the table was cleared. Since then
I haven't been able to find the box. It now seems my other half thought
the box was empty, it was very light, and threw it out. The bin bags have
already been collected. If anybod wants a free pair then have a scout
    around on Durham's landfill sites.

    Oh nightmare 🙁

Just a thought, did you pay by credit card? Some cards will by default
cover you for loss of damage of goods bought using the card for 90
days. Worth a phone call to find out perhaps...?

If you still have the recipt, your house insurance may cover this. Mine
would but it's a fairly "all singing-all dancing" type policy.

It's just been one of those weeks. Lightning took out our phone line
around the same time. When we got the line back we realised it had fried
the modem. Then it turns out it also fried our inverter so we have a
reduced electricity supply when the generators aren't on.

Just called. Throwing it away isn't covered apparently.

Mine will but I checked the CC insurance first just in case. I have a
feeling my excess is 50 quid, though it may be 25. I will then have to go
through the rigmarole of persuading them that the replacement product from
their preferred supplier isn't actaully the equivalent of what I lost.
    Still, I'll get something back.

My SO once threw out a large container of colloidal silica (used as a
thicken agent in epoxy mixes for composites) in similar circumstances.
The stuff weighs nothing, so the container must be empty...

Their preferred supplier is probably Simon Mason who gets safety
    glasses free at work. :-)

It's not as if you deliberately threw them away, is it? They sound
like my (ex-) buildings insurers, the Shabby National, who refused a
claim on a new bathroom door after I had to break the old one down to
release my trapped daughter. "We don't cover damage you cause
    deliberately."
