We took a quick ride in BSP. Something felt strange about the ride. We had seen a guy with a bright yellow GT at the bathroom area and had thought nothing of him. As we took off into the woods, we felt a weird presence. Everywhere we went, we saw him there, no matter what section of the woods...he was there. Again, we rode back to the bathroom area later on in the ride and who do you think was there? Mr. Barney. He was an obvious newbie, easily picked out by the way he was riding. We continued back on the ride and actually wound up behind him on the 135 section of the trail. He was realtively hopeless. Couldn't climb to save his life, so we blew by him on the section as he made a valiant effort to keep up with us.
Other than that, the ride was uneventful. Except for the incident that occurred on our way back to the parking lot. There was several ambulances and such on a section of the paved path. As we rode by, we saw a little child being strapped onto a backboard as her parents stood by crying. From what I observed, it seems that she might have hit a tree head-on (there was only 1 child's bicycle near the accident area). I saw no helmets, no children's helmet and no adult helmets. So the child was obviously not wearing a helmet when she possibly hit the tree. It was a sad situation that might have been prevented or made less tragic if a little more safety precaution was made.
