  1. I do the following 'cause I wanna be in some semblance of shape (round *IS* a shape) when the snow
    melts next spring).

This time of year I'm on the stationary bike a few hours a week. To keep myself from going totally
bonkers (no comments from the peanut gallery please) I listen to some tunes on my discman (Yes I'm
outta synch with the current MP3 player generation). At least it's not a cassette!

Anyway, I noticed that my cadence is slightly affected by the tune that's playing. Midnight Oil gets
me going pretty well with Diesel & Dust, whereas Chris deBurgh brings on a somewhat mellow approach
on the bike with Spanish Train.

I don't ride the trails with tunes, that'd just be *asking* for trouble (for me that is), but I
suspect some of you out in virtual land might. So my question is...

Do you ride to the tempo of your music, or do you choose the type of music based on the expected
    tempo of your ride???

I tend to switch the music in my head with the terrain. I find early "Blondie" good for downhill
sections (and driving the back roads) while something more classical works for walking up the hills
    ;-) On a trainer? Dunno....

just indoors with music, at the mercy of the spin instructor.

I do most of my stationary hamster wheel workouts in the local spin class. I ride to whatever tempo
the hot little cycle mistress demands of me. Frankly I don't pay much attention to the music as that
side of my brain is firmly engaged in other types of fantasy. She could bang two rocks together to
give a tempo and I'd follow along like the sick Pavlovian drool sack that I am, just as long as she
whispers that sweet little "C'mon push it harder!" into the microphone every few minutes.

I'd rather be riding the real thing, but I guess it ain't a bad way to pass the cold wet days
    of winter.

I find music from cartoons to be most fitting for my style of riding.

Ravel's Bolero (as seen on Fantasia, not 10) would be fitting for those uphill pushes..I
    mean, climbs.

I have been known to blurt out the opening of Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyres" on some blasting
downhill. Strangely enough, my buds find it annoying more than amusing. I don't know if its the song
    or my rendition, though.

you and me both... it's been a freaking 40 degree downpour ( even in the mountains) for days
now. What's kind of funny in my spin classes is that the "real riders"seem to all hang together, we
all end up on one side of room, with the cadio-cizers on the other ... it's almost fun when we get
    divided into teams...

pathetic really but I'll take what I can get this time of year.

Between being sick and some lousy rain, I'd settle for a spin class.

But I gotta be really desperate to join those cardio clowns and heavy

    house-wives at 5am.

Where's Richard Simmons when you need him?

The 9 am is filled with cardio-cizers and real bikers. There's been a guy showing up who so
resembles you that I did a double take, ugly jersey and all. Not you at all, he was hitting on me in
front of his wife, who is a very nice lady.

there's always video's from the "firm" if you need something new

I only ride to music on my commute and tend to ride to the tempo of the music so I usually go for
eurodance, techno or hardtrance. Something with at least 130bpm, preferably 140 or more 🙂
