I finally managed to get out for a longish ride for the
first time this year. Went out on Saturday afternoon and
headed down to Patapsco SP. This is a portion I call River
Rd but it connects at some point to the McKeldin area
(Marriottsville, MD) and over towards the Avalon area. For
those not familiar, PatapscoState Park runs along the
Patapsco River and includes the C&O frieght mainline tracks
out towards Frederick, MD. At some points the SP is pretty
narrow. So in theory you could ride horse trails and bike
trails for quite a long distance. Some
day....................
The weather was perfect (temps in the 50's) and sunny. The
trails were dry although the horses had REALLY trashed them.
In some places it was like riding through a freshly plowed
field the soil was THAT churned up and soft. Not mud just
loose soil. Things were clicking pretty well though. I
managed to clean several places that usually kicked my ass.
These rides are never really a strong cardio work out for
me. They usually REALLY hammer my legs and knees.
I did have a close encounter with a beaver (four legged)
that really didn't seem to be all that concerned with me. He
(she?) looked at me and mosied towards the water and never
really did climb in. Just watched me ride away. Very
"Discovery Channel".
The Dakar handled great though and I did manage to struggle
back up the hill to my house with just over 15 miles on the
odometer. I can tell it was a good ride because it's Tuesday
and I can still feel it in my 45 year old knees!
Can't wait for the next one.
