  1. Initially I wasn't planning to race on Sunday, but the planned ride was cancelled so off I went to the Western Sydney Mtb Club XC
    race out at Yellowmundee.

This was to be the first completely dry race of the series, so they'd added an extra lap for all the grades - I was no looking
forward to having to do an extra lap (D grade now having to do 2 laps).

I sprinted off the start, SS gearing being perfect, and made the singletrack first. Then out onto the fire road climb, the guy that
ended up coming 3rd pulled along side me and we had a bit of chat before he move passed and into the next section of singletrack
ahead of me hard on his tail. I tried to get passed on the next short fire trail up to the "Tower of Power" but couldn't get passed
and again followed him into the next singletrack, down across the wire bridge, off the bikes for the technical climb (rideable but
quicker and safer to walk) and then out onto another longer fire road climb. Here the guy that came second passed me as we started
the climb but I began to make my move, powering past both of them on the climb making a lot of time, if they wanted to keep up they
were going to hurt. By the end of this climb I'd gapped them by a couple of hundred meters.

The rest of the lap and the final were reasonably uneventful, I started to pass the back end of C grade. One guy managing to have a
bit of a tank slapper crash climbing a short hill, one of the funniest stacks I've seen in a long time.

Onto the old trotting track for the last time and there is no sign of the two chasing. Up through the final single track to take
the win by about a minute with 3rd maybe another minute behind.

Win by about a minute??? Is that a normal margin? It sounds like a good old-fashioned shellacking! Well done 😄

Yup, I might get away with it one more time first. I thought of slowing down, but with out knowing how far away they were I couldn't risk it. Mt Bike gradings (and racing) seem to be a lot more casual.

For FD - I think I stole the sig from somewhere else, here's the rest

Three gears for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-Lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne,
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One gear to rule them all, One gear to find them,
One gear to bring them all and in darkness bind them,
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

Not too unusual, a poor start and you're in the back of the pack in the single track which makes it very hard to pass.
