Going to be a short report.
Rode C-grade this evening, hoping to at least go one better than my 5th last week. This time I came with a plan to do just that, and not even think about the win. The idea was to stick with the bunch at all costs, then attack on the last lap just as the sweeper was ending.
25 riders in C-grade, so a few more people than the previous outing. Rolled around in 3rd wheel for the first few laps, but then decided I'll drift towards the rear of the bunch, and just hang around for a while and keep an eye on any moves. After about 10 mins the wind noticeably picked up on the back end of the course, there was no way a break would succeed in that wind. At the 15 min mark there was a 2 man breakaway attempt, which lasted for all of 3 laps, before it was groupetto once again.
I was feeling really good at this stage, and wasn't in any difficulty whatsoever, noticed Bikesoiler at the finish line and gave him a friendly wave. This was a very cruisey C-grade race, which suited me just fine. A few more laps went, then the 3 to go...still no real moves on that lap, then 2 to go, still feeling good. Coming around the hairpin I decided to make my move, 2nd wheel going over the line with a gap opening up to chasing bunch, who weren't really chasing. I stuck likeglue to this guys wheel, until as planned I attacked on the sweeper. Rounded the hairpin in first, then slowly died going up the hill. I was passed about 50m after the hairpin by the winner, then passed again just before the road drifts off to the left.
Crossed the line in 3rd place, mission accomplished
Yippee I'm on the podium in C-Grade 😄
My av speed, which included a slow warmdown lap, before I remembered to stop the clock was 35.1. So as you can see it was snail pace for C.
