It was probably already cracked part way through and
something just finished it off. If you look at the
exposed surfaces, there might be a dark part and a light

The key difference here, which you seem to be missing, is
that JD didn't really trumpet the virtues of his Y-bike
before it broke like you did with your Jamis.

Stupid is correct in his explanation in the difference
between chromoly and aluminum. The Moab 2 is a most
excellent mid-range bike and is priced very competetively.
The bike shop where I test rode it is willing to let me have
one for $650 because they know that I ride all of the time
and their product will be seen being used to the utmost.
It's kind of like paying for advertising. I still may go for
it just to have another back-up bike. At that price I'd be
pretty foolish not to.

Well put Gazzer. Even though mine broke (and has since been
