  1. Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. The self proclaimed mecca of MTB in PA. The
fourth of July JAR ride was going to be an epic. We arrive at JT (if you
want to know the story of how it got it's name, Google it) at 10:00. We
decide on doing the Twin Peaks ride which encompasses two sets of trails on
two different mountains. In the usual JAR tradition, we start off with a
three mile climb to the top of peak number 1 at which point we make sure
    it's the right trail.

    http://www.pchospital.net/IMG_1109.jpg

The trails here are some nice technical singletrack with so many baby heads
you can't even see the trail. Suspension is your friend here for the next
two and a half miles. The it's some nice singletrack decent into powerline
country. Slippery stuff here and much steeper than it looks (chickens).

    http://www.pchospital.net/IMG_1113.jpg
    http://www.pchospital.net/IMG_1114.jpg

Then it's time to climb peak two. This path is the famous gravity railroad
which when the railroad was no longer needed actually became the first
rollercoaster in the world. I don't know why they call it gravity because
it was certainly going in the opposite direction. Few of us made this 1.5
mile 40% incline. The rollercoaster is supposed to be restored soon.

    http://www.pchospital.net/IMG_1116.jpg

We then pose for the group shot.

    http://www.pchospital.net/IMG_1120.jpg

Then it's downhill back to town for a total of 21 miles.

    http://www.pchospital.net/IMG_1126.jpg
    http://www.pchospital.net/IMG_1129.jpg

This is only one of the many trails that line this area in the Pennsylvania
    Poconos.

A friend and I went to JT last summer. We camped at the campground and rode
a couple of the trails in the area. We rode the twin peaks trail but did it
in the opposite direction. Coming down that long "baby head" section into
town was a lot easier that going up it for sure.

    Nice RR.

Oh, we came down the baby head section. We went up the Flagpole Inn fire
road. That was the big climb from the town. I wouldn't even attempt
climbing the babyhead trail. The video shows the other babyhead trail I was
talking about and part 2 (not done yet) will show the decent back to town..

Did you get to do American Standard? We would have liked to do it but it
has been closed while the game lands commission sorts things out.

I think if you buy a hunting/fishing license and carry a tiny fishing pole
in your camelbak, they'll let you ride the gamelands trails. What a scam
they have in order to make money.

Yeh, we almost did it anyway and played the "dumb mountain biker I had no
idea" excuse. But, our club president is also the IMBA rep for the area and
I don't think that would have been helpful to the situation.
