it, due to its being thrashed first by motos and then by skidiots. The
first section we rode was nice, as was past that big meadow and before
the skid-o-rama.

My mind is a little foggy but I believe he said he didn't remember the
middle section being whooped out and torn up. I have to confess, I rode the
section between Big Meadow and Sherman Pass on a motorcycle in 1977 or 1978.
It was open then but ours were the only motorcycle tracks and we didn't see
a hiker nor any mtn bikers that day. The bonus section up to Sherman Peak
and the section from Big Meadow out to Kernville is closed to motorcycles.

I was a little bummed with the moto-damage as well in the upper
sections. It was not that bad in 2003. Of course JD got the full
experience of the damage by bringing along the rigid bike.

group that did the Plunge. The hike-a-bike GT talked about half way down
the Plunge was almost cleaned by a female (Joy) in our group. She walked
alot of the rocky sections but she hammered the uphills.

the bikes and riders hanging out at Cannell Station.

BTW, you're a much better man than I. I can't imagine escorting such a
large group of riders with such varying skills down Cannell.

We only had a group of 4, and between my out of shapeness, Porter's
respiratory problems in the first half of the ride, and some small
mechanicals it was definitely a long day. Of the four of us only Bill
O'Neil was fresh enough to go back and do it again if he had had the time.

All nice and cool (moderate), then turn a corner and WHAM -- hit in the face
with /really/ hot air that lasts the last two hours of the ride.

Oh, yeah, and I'm sure Dean's group experienced it to greater effect
since it was much warmer this weekend. I'm really glad we went the
weekend that we did.

No there was an slightly overcast that made things bearable, not hot until
the last section to the highway.

Since it was my first time on that trail I welcomed the slow pace...time to
enjoy and take pictures.

We ended up with 31 people on the ride. Miracle no major problems.

Jeff (Jfish) from MTBR was a great guide the two days prior.

I'd say almost knocking oneself out like that one guy did is pretty
close to a major problem. It all seemed to be teetering on the edge
from the very first post. You all had The Man In The Clouds looking
after you that day.

To add to that, on the other side of that log in the pictures is a
trail that you could take for miles and miles....:-)
