Route to Dolgellau

Would say this was best route, roads are quite good and it is quite a
scenic route.

Dolgellau. Have tried a few variations over the years (including the
above) and now always go

M56, M53 (south), A55 round Chester, A483 past Wrexham, A539 to
Llangollen, A5 then A494 to Dolgellau.

The A494 north of the A5 via Mold and Ruthin is wiggly and narrow so
although a little bit shorter it is slower. My route has good dual
carriageway until the A539 so is usually quicker. The A494 is prettier
so it depends if you want a nice view or a quick journey...

Last week I went there via Oswestry and Llanrhaeadr YM. Beautiful.
Quiet roads, friendly pubs en route (camped in pub garden).
M56/A55/A483, then B roads, then A458.
I was talking in the pub to an old native Llanrhaeadr man who had
lived in Liverpool (close to me as it happened) for decades after
going to sea. One day, growing tired of Liverpool, he happened to look
at the works notice board and saw a job going in Llanrhaeadr. He
decided fate was calling him home, applied for it and got it! It's
only a tiny place too. Nice stroke of luck!

There's a car park on the left of the road as you arrive in Bala
(entrance is down a side street just over the river bridge) with
toilets.

It always seems to be just the right place for a break for us but with
your shorter journey you might just want to crack on...

That's the route I have always taken. Mind you, a lot of traffic turns off
the A5 towards Ruthin on the return journey, so it must be popular. It may
make more sense if you are bound for the Birkinhead end of the Wirral.
