Ronnie Coleman has proved beyond any doubt that you can the best of the
best with (very) heavy basic exercises and straight sets. He does not
use any special techniques nor does he have a training partner. He
pyramids up from a light to a very heavy weight in about 4-5 sets. He
uses a heavy and light day, but the exercises on a light day are still
basic exercises, only weights are lighter and sets longer. He does use
a guite short range of motion on most of his reps, which I do not
recommend.

Basic and (very) heavy is the theme. The dude is strong and monstrous!
Yates was heavy and relatively basic as well, thought he dis use guite
a lot of machines, at least towerds the end of his bodybuilding career.
He probably trained harder, as he did use intensity techniques with his
training partner.

Dorian Yates - Blood and guts
For the back, for example, he uses Nautilus pullover, Hammer row
(leverage), Hammer upper row (leverage) and his old standby, the narrow
grip barbell row
By the way, both of these guys (as well as Lee Haney and many others)
seem to have shorts backs, which could enable them to train heavier and
definetely makes them look more packed, especially from the back. It
seems to me, tahat you can not make it to the top with a long back
(which I, for one, probably have). Lee Labrada, Lee Priest and Shawn
Ray are short and have long(er) backs. Levrone has a long(er) back as
does Nasser (whose back was his weak point). They made well, but not to
the top. The back is easily the most important bodypart. You just need
to look at Haney, Dorian and Coleman!

By the way, he says he takes pills for prostate and liver. Wonder why?
Well, I guess he should, since he (like everybody else) is pretty much
a walking pharmacy! Anyone who thinks that these top guys do not use
massive amounts of steroids and other hormones and medications must be
pretty dumb.
This is not to say I do not respect these top athletes. It does not
change the fact that the top guys train and diet very hard and are very
gifted genetically for the sport. In fact, some of these drugs enable
you to train harder more often and still recover! They have just made
the necessary decision to reach the top, and the price (and prize)
could be high!
If there were such a thing as a natural bodybuilding contest where the
athletes would truly be natural, I would respect them even more. They
probably train even harder (though not so often, to be able to recover)
and diet probably even harder. And there might be a dude who could beat
Coleman if everybody was natural. This I can not know. Either he does
not want to take drugs (respect!) or he has no access (cant afford, or
something) to the best drugs.
