They rode well, but Hincapie said he was counting on an attack in a
specific spot and he was caught napping when it came earlier than that.
He should have stuck with de Peet as the rest of the top 6 did and not
tried to follow a script.

this guy reminds me of Bartoli, position and all, and he

Hincapies face crossing the line was a good indicator of how
he feels about the race, his whole team set him up, and he
blew it, bad. 4th wheel all day and then missed the
break with van p, zabel, wessemen, and boonen - it's not
like that move was a tentative little dig at the front,
that is THE RACE, going up the road George, you might want to try to
get on that bad boy.
then Armstrong and Ekimov get to the front like somehow they
are gonna pull a break with that kinda horsepower back, and then
you look at the group behind and it's Discovery and nothing but
Telekom,
QuickStep and Lotto guys just sitting on, maybe the odd phonak
dude struggling to breathe while he freewheels on the sleighride.
great race though, boonen was like a locomotive those last three
K's, it was like the other guys realized instantly that there
was no bringing him back, gone.

My mistake, he wasn't in an early break... he still spent more klicks
out front than the other 5 though.

I was thinking more along the lines of Abdoujaporov, winning out of
breakaways.

He was certainly impressive on Sunday - and actually he is one of the
better climbers among the sprinters - often finishes ahead of the
autobus.

Well, Godefroot said it was planned. Perhaps he wanted to isolate
Hincapie. One minute later you could see Hincapie trying to bridge the
gap all by himself and towing along Ivanov, Aldag and some other Lotto
and Quickstep guys. And the gap grew to one minute.

In the postrace interview he said he flatted but not where, on his site
he writes it was on top of the Valkenberg. In both cases he hastens to
add that that's not an excuse, he just hadn't the legs.
