I have owned a set of Kreitler Challenger Rollers for about 9 years now, and aside from the occational new belt, there as good as new!
(Durable but expensive!)
Kreitlers are smooth! I like them, but for the money I like Tacx. Cheaper and really same type of smoothness as Kreitlers, but Kreitler's got good bearings.

I've been on the top of the line Kreitler's and the pretty basic Performance Technique rollers... To me, they both felt solid and smooth, but I'm fairly certain that the Kreitler's will last much much longer with their better bearings...
Kreitlers. I've used mine (heavily - 3-4x/week) for 7 years. I've the Challenger model w/"Killer Headwind" unit and have only replaced the fan belt once.
