Fill a pan with hot tap water and put the bottle in the pan. When the lube
has warmed up, try shaking. Let us know if my crazy scheme works.

Yeah I thought of microwaving it, too.

I've seen the same problem in my cool garage. I'd shake the bottle, get some flow, but the lube sets
up as a waxy film on the bike chain. Not a good deal. I've been using ProLink lube past couple of
months. So far, so good with no application problems in cool temps. It goes on nicely and best of
all it doesn't seem to attract dirt like most lubes.

Sounds like we're seeing normal behavior for Gold.

My original post wasn't very clear. Although the stuff got very cold during shipping, it was at room
temperature when I applied it. I was thinking that maybe the prolonged cold actually damaged it in
some way - caused an irreversible change in the chemistry such that the heavier components wouldn't
go back into the solution.

But I looked closer at the photo on their web site and it seems to show the same separation in
the bottle.

I think the answer is, you have to shake it even longer and harder than I did. Or maybe actually
warm it to something above room temperature. Unfortunately we're still locked in winter here and I
can only pedal the bike on the trainer - I can't really judge the 'quietness' of the chain.

I've used Rock-n-Roll Gold for a couple of years. It's a great lube, but there is a problem with the
bottle. When I first bought it, I got a small sample bottle and there wasn't a problem with
glogging. So because I liked it, I bought a large bottle that came with a smaller applicator bottle.
This bottle glogs all the time--winter or summer.

I figured out that the opening in the tip of the bottle is rough and that's what causes it to glog;
the white stuff sticks to the rough surface of the opening. I requested a new tip from Rock-N-Roll,
which they sent after two requests and it had the same rough opening. So I found a little plastic
squirt bottle that has a smooth opening and I now use that. It doesn't glog at all.

Pro-Link is my favorite too. Chain is quiet, doesn't attract too much dust (no small matter around
here), and is real easy to clean (kerosene in the soda bottle method). Doesn't leave build-up on
the cogs (like White Lightning) either. And I'm pretty sure my chain and cogs are wearing longer
thanks to Pro-Link. I also have some Boeshield but I haven't even tried it yet because I like the
Pro-Link so well.

Oh yeah, and it's homogeneous too.

I think next time I'll take the bottle to the hardware store and ask them to
put it on the pain shaker for a few minutes. :-)
