  1. Is there any such thing as a pretty good wheelset for under $200? I've been looking at the Shimano R500's and was told they are a pain in the butt to get a tire onto. Are they otherwise good? I saw them at pricepoint for $150-ish. Looking for something with fewer than 32 spokes and relatively reliable.

    Any opinions appreciated.

  2. They're 36's, but the base Nashbar $150 Velocity wheelset is pretty doggone good, and it's only $100 currently. Only works on 8 and 9 Shimano though. Can't see how one could possibly get a better deal. The rims are about an inch wide -- you may or may not want that.

  3. I bought a Mavic Aksium wheelset for $215 and really enjoy them. I have only put ~200 miles on them but they look nice, ride well, and have stayed true so far.

  4. found this in the bulk folder this morning

  5. those mavic askium wheels are great. $229 and I think the black ones might be a bit more. The bontrager Race are very nice too, but those are closer to $300

  6. $169 shipping included, get them in 3 days. Basically a Bontrager Race knockoff.

that alex wheelset seems pretty sweet. I'm eyeballing those and the cannondale coda/ sun ME14, and the easton velomax's from the nashbar link.

Buddy of mine just got them last week for 149. A good solid wheel that rides well. Call/email the guy in NY, Frank I think is his name, and tell him you want last week's 149 deal. I did that when he raised the price on Pro Race tires ($36) and he backed down.

  9. Most of the internet sellers offer Open Pros on Ultegra hubs for around $200.00. Relative to actual performance, they're the standard to which everything else is compared.

  10. Campy Vento's are pretty cheap these days. Not as good as the Open Pro / Ultegra option, but possibly cheaper. They're a bit heavy but bomb proof.
